Barbed Wire & Roses

Barbed Wire and Roses is a group of four musicians from the southwest corner of South Dakota. These folks are just country people who have a good time playing music, They came together as a group in the summer of 2004 as the “evening dinner music” at the Edgemont Theater, a melodrama theater in Edgemont, South Dakota, and found that their lifestyles, and their style of playing music and harmonizing on vocals was well suited to cowboy and western music.

The members:
Briana Aldrich is a young wife and mother of 2 daughters. She has a beautiful high voice, and a natural ear for harmony. She started out her singing at the Mountain Music Show in Custer, SD as a teen.

Marcia Brown plays mandolin and also has a gift for singing the low ranges of harmony. She is the local postmaster in Edgemont. She was raised on a ranch in Faith, SD. She is part of a musical family – her mother, Sybil Brown, is also a mandolin player.

John Putnam is a fourth generation rancher on the place his great grandfather homesteaded in 1900 in the Dewey, South Dakota area. He sings the low ranges and tries to keep us on beat and in tune.

Kathy Corbett plays guitar and sings mainly melody (harmony takes a lot of work!). She works as a physical therapist in near-by Hot Springs, SD, where her job is keeping the “pieces and parts” of the ranchers working!

They have 2 CD’s out: Barbed Wire and Roses – The First Year; and A Barbed Wire and Roses Christmas.
