T.J. Casey, Cowboy Poet - Singer
|
T.J. Casey has always been a cowboy, in the truest sense. He has
Went most of his life in the saddle on ranches through the West.
As a Certified Veterinarian Technician, he has delivered more calves,
and doctored more horses then he can remember. He has spent most
of his life working cattle and managing large ranches, however,
T.J's work today is primarily taming horses but he still enjoys
helping local ranchers work cattle when he gets a chance.
When TJ. isn't in the sadcfle; he's pursuing his other passion,
composing and performing cowboy poetry and western music. He has
performed at the Louisiana Hayride, the Texas State Cowboy Poetry
Gathering. and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko,NV only
to mention a few. He, has won numerous awards and trophies for songwriting,
singing and yodeling, and guitar pickin'.
TJ has written and published two Cowboy Poetry books (Whispers
of Sage and Whispers of Sage Too, and his
next book Raw Hide And Stickers is in the works.
T.J. was the featured performer at the 2000 "Cody Stampede"
in Wyoming, and worked several other shows around this time. He
was nominated for two "Poet of the Year Awards through the
lnternational Poets Society, and has had several of his poems published
by this organization. He has a poem published in the 'The Big Roundup
Anthology as well. Most recently one of TJ.'s Poems, "Trickling
Water", was published in a National Publication for Education.
Because of his natural "real" cowboy appearance, TJ was
selected as a model for the "2002 Quick Draw Competition"
in Great Falls, Montana at the 34th Annual C.M Russell Auction.
A nationally recognized artist painted him, and while the painting
was being auctioned, TJ was asked to yodel for the crowd of some
1500 auction attendees from all over the nation.
TJ recently completed an album of authentic original western music,
which was released in the spring of 2002. "Blue Montana Skies"
features music composed and performed solely by TJ. Casey.
After breaking into the performance music circles that T.J. so
loved as a young man, personal family matters persuaded him to put
his beloved music aside, and continue his life as a cowboy. However,
he did continue to write, sing, and play his guitar during this
time only privately. But now, them's no doubt about it -
Montana's Singing Cowboy is back.
"I believe in our roots and heritage," says T.J. "I've
got a story to tell. We all need to stand up and protect the traditions
and legacies we've inherited. I want to be an image for kids to
look up to, and hopefully instill in them this same love of country
and customs I know and respect. Without our heritage, our children
lose focus. Without our children's focus, we lose our world."
