Patty Clayton, Cowboy Singer
|
Patty is a fourth generation descendant of an Oregon Trail emigrant and
pioneer. Her ancestors emigrated by covered wagon from Missouri
to Oregon 1867. Her Great Grandfather eventually settled in central
Idaho in 1886, where he engaged in the cattle, horse and sheep business
with vast ranches along the Salmon River, and Craig Mountain areas
working through the depression years until his death in 1940. Benjamin
Reeves was one of the last few cattle trailers of the Old West,
and for more than 50 years prominently identified with the livestock
industry of Idaho.
Patty's family history certainly gave her the roots for her love
of the western life style and she has always been a cowgirl at heart.
In the amount of time that she has spent around horses in her own
life she has been even more inspired and has contributed many a
horse balad to the western folk music scene.
Since the early 1970's, Patty has been performing for a variety of folk and traditional
music events and has been awarded several trophies for her own vocal
and songwriting capabilities. She has performed with guitar and
her banjo singing her own materal as a solo act and she also accompanies
other musical acts on her big bass fiddle at many different events
from the west coast to the midwest and all points in between.
Patty released her first solo CD in the year 2000 entitled "A
Matter of Time" and has just released her second solo project
"Just a Little Bit Cowgirl" both of which are collections
of original ballads and borrowed songs about today and yesterday
in the West.
Patty has been nominated for the Academy of Western Artists Awards.
Nominations included: Western Female Vocalist, Western Swing Female
Vocalist, Western Swing Song of the Year for "Just a Little
Bit Cowgirl" and Western CD of the Year for "Just a Little
Bit Cowgirl".
