Dick Hart, Cowboy Poet - Historian
|
Dick's business card says it, so it must be so. His cowboy poetry and tales
have delighted audiences from coast to coast. Published as Rhymes
of a Rexall Wrangler, they detail his misadventures on Iowa
farms and Wyoming ranches, and and in his international travels.
His program also includes new poems, to be published in his next
book, The Rexall Wrangler Rhymes Again.
Dick's astonishing resemblance to Theodore Roosevelt led him to
write and present a series of docudrams, describing "Teddy's"
adventures as a boy in New York, rancher in Dakota Territory, hunter,
governor of New York, and 21st President of the United States. Teddy's
zest for life, his sense of humor, and his commitment to conservation
are vividly portrayed in Dick's presentation. Like every good politician,
Dick as Teddy includes references to local happenings and personalities
Teddy encountered. Dick has assembled a fascinating picture of the
Great Plains before European settlement, based on journals of explorers,
trappers, traders, and other travelers who saw the Plains first
hand. His illustrated presentation will challenge several common
beliefs about the "pristine" condition of Great Plains
Rangelands. Dick's knowledge of rangeland ecology is backed up by
39 years of research with the US Department of Agriculture.
