The New Pioneers - Cowboy Musicians
|
This talented family group of musicians has been performing publicly now
for some 12 years with their dedication to "continuing the tradition"
of the original Sons of the Pioneers. The group consists of Alan Meyer,
Ken and Gene Butts and Paul Denton. They are members of the Western
Music Association and the Academy of Western Artists and have been
regulars at the annual WMA festivals as well as the Festival of the
West in Scottsdale and the Cowboy Songs and Range Ballads festival
in Cody, Wyoming for a number of years. Having performed all over
the U.S. this past year from Portland, Oregon to Weston, Connecticut,
they have chosen to accept an invitation to join the Cowboy Symposium
and Celebration festival this year here in Cheyenne. Their close vocal
blend and intricate harmony patterns complimented by their classical
instrumental accompaniment are so very reminiscent of those original
`Pioneers', and the delightful fiddle work of Paul Denton is a special
feature. They are credited with `pioneering' a new return to those
great original sounds we all remember from the thirties and forties.
Some say they are now "the real thing" and have picked up
the mantel laid down by the originals.
