Tim Nolting - Cowboy Poet
|
A Coloradan since the bi-centennial in '76, Tim and his wife Karen make their home just west of Berthoud where a very small outfit is the beginning of a long-time dream to continue in the tradition passed down to Tim from his Great-Grandad, his Grandad and Dad. The four-generation operation in Kansas, where Tim spend his first 20 years, was liquidated in the late 60's after a long run of hard times.
Time's unique brand of poetry captures the spirit and lifestyle of the cowboy of the late 1800's though the turn of the century. An avid historian of the old west, Tim coined the term "cowboyologist", to describe his constant searching out of stories and memoirs of the wold cowboys. Through these stories and a first hand knowledge of the lifestyle, Time weaves a tapestry of verse that draws the listener into an era when life was simpler and the creak of good saddle leather was the lullaby of the cowboy.
Tim's main purpose in writing his poetry is for his own enjoyment, to share with his family and friends and to help keep alive the history and tradition of the men and boys who made their mark on the great trail drives and in the wide open spaces of the rapidly shrinking west.
Tim says, "I like to think that just maybe, I'm putting into verse the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of not only myself, but also of those who came before, the men and boys who forged the legend and legacy of the cowboy."
Tim's poetry is simple in its rhyme and meter, just as the lifestyle which it portrays. His verses are filled with vivid images, which bring to life the stories of the cowboy, and capture the spirit of the West.
