Prairie Moon

The dynamic trio of Prairie Moon is made up of Jim Garling from Guthrie, Oklahoma and Dennis and Sally Gilstrap from Oklahoma City. Individually, they bring a solid history of musical experience and performance to this vibrant group.

Dennis playing upright bass and Sally playing mandolin have many years of experience. Jim Garling, the guitarist of the group, has had a varied musical background beginning with country-western, western swing and old time fiddling, but it was at the annual 2002 Gene Autry Oklahoma Film and Music Festival that he became a convert to western/cowboy music. Since that time, he has performed there annually as well as at other western festivals, private parties, and community-based venues.

Jim teaches fiddle/guitar lessons and conducts workshops at the Double Stop Fiddle SHop in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was at the Fiddle Shop at tan informal Saturday afternoon music jam where the Gilstraps and Jim discovered a great combination -- the Gilstraps' remarkable harmonies and Jim's rich, mellow voice. So in early 2005 "Prairie Moon" was conceived.

Since coming together, Prairie Moon has concentrated on western/cowboy music and has had a full and busy performance schedule.

Although this group has not punched any doggies or followed any cattle trails, they know about western music and how to lasso a melody with intricate and tight harmonies that tie it together in on remarkable performance that pleases audiences young and old.
