2006 Pioneer Roundtable

"William Robert (Bill) Dubois III": Cheyenne, Wyoming: MODERATOR

Bill Dubois will serve as moderator for the Pioneer Family Round Table.

He is a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, the Grandson of William Robert Dubois I, and son of the well known architect William Robert Dubois II.

It is no wonder with Bill's heritage and historical family background, that he chose to receive his master degree in history at the University of Wyoming. For thirty-seven years he taught history to young folks in the educational school system in Cheyenne. Bill has been an inspiration to all for his dedication, hard work, in support of his family, students, friends, church, local organizations, community and state.


10:00 A.M. Monty Teel: Euless, Texas
"My Cowboy and Pioneer Heritage" will be Monty's presentation. He will tell of the cowboys in the Teel family and of the pioneers in the Miller, Moncrief, and Phillips families.


10:30 A.M. Ray Maple: Cody, Wyoming
Ray will tell of his family who came to Wyoming in 1917 from Page, Nebraska. He will tell of how they settled on a homestead north of Douglas, Wyoming.


11:00 A.M. Rose Burrows: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Rose intends to tell stories about her pioneering family and neighbors in the Nebraska Pan Handle who settled as ranchers/farmers. Rose will also talk about her grandmother Sandoz who was a sister to old Jules of Mari Sandoz' writings.


11:30 A.M. LeClercq L "Le" Jones: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Le will talk about what he knows of how his family arrived in the United States. He will tell of what brought them to Wyoming and what life was like in the Big Horn Basin in the 1880s and how the Basin was developed. He'll also tell some personal experiences about growing up there before he left Frannie, Wyoming to attend the University.


12:00 P.M. Jackie Maple: Cody, Wyoming
Jackie will tell of her great-grandfather who served as a wagon master on wagon trains carrying emigrants headed for opportunities in the West. She will tell of her grandparent's life before they finally settled in California.


1:00 P.M. Janette L. Chambers: Glendo, Wyoming
Janette will present her talk about her great grandfather, George Hiteshew, who came to Wyoming in 1872 and settled about two miles west of Cheyenne. He married Mattie Dayton a seventeen year-old from Rockwood, Tennessee in 1881. From this union three children were born. This is part of the story of George and Mattie and some of their children during these early years.


1:30 P.M. Patsy White: Hudson, Colorado; Wilma Marr: Greeley, Colorado; Carol Bryant: Laramie, Wyoming

2:00 P.M. Mahlon Peterson: Torrington, Wyoming
Mahlon will present his talk on the homestead days in the middle of the prairie, which is now known as Prairie Center, Wyoming, a very small community. He also will tell how his grandfather got to this country.


2:30 P.M. Vern Gayler: Livermore, Colorado
Vern will present his talk on his family and three generations of German Gunsmiths.


3:00 P.M. John Roedel: Cheyenne, Wyoming
The Roedel Drug store opened it doors for business 117 years ago. Through humor, storytelling, and fact giving John will take the audience on a tour of the 117 years legacy of one of the oldest family owned business in Wyoming.


3:30 P.M. Tommy Wiggins: Tucson, Arizona
Tommy's presentation will be on his family, as well as his sixty years in the entertainment business.


4:00 P.M. Jane Morton: Colorado Springs, Colorado
"The Customer Is Always Right" was the story and the motto of Jake and Yetta Wax and their new store, The Wrangler, which they opened in Cheyenne in l943. From their l5,000 square foot location, they outfitted the rancher, the ranch hand, and the western want-to-be, along with the sheep herder, the tourist, and the Indian from the reservation. Learn of the colorful characters who came through their doors and the way it was when life on Lincoln Way rolled past their windows.
